Harrison Husky Marching Band
Performs in Stamford Balloon Parade
POSTED:JANUARY 2012
The Harrison Husky marching band performed at the UBS Balloon Parade in Stamford on Sunday November 20, where nearly 200,000 people lined the streets in anticipation of this holiday tradition.
This year’s Grand Marshals of the parade were Emmy and Golden Globe winner and Academy Award and Tony award nominee Laura Linney, Tony Award winner John Benjamin Hickey and Academy Award nominee Gabourey Sidibe of The Big C on Showtime and new balloons such as The Very Hungry Catepillar and Hagar The Horrible were showcased. The Harrison troop was chased by a giant Oscar The Grouch balloon.
The parade was kept in line by the drum line cadence set by the Husky marching band. Harrison hadn’t played at this large of a venue for many years and according to co-band director Fred Pasqua it was a terrific way to complete the marching and stadium units for the band.
“The band worked hard – holding their form and controlling their performance and intensity for forty straight minutes,” said co-band director Charlie Briem. “In a parade, there are no breaks or rest stops and the audience is new every twelve seconds as you move along the route.”
