Harrison Police Officers Spread Holiday Cheer

POSTED: DECEMBER 2011

Santa arrived during the holiday season at the United Preschool Center in White Plains as the Harrison Police Department made a visit to some very special children with disabilities. The students were overwhelmed with joy at the sight of Officer Michael Walther as Santa and Officer’s Carmine Gentile, Edward Arce and John Carney as his merry men.

The members of the Harrison Police Department have been visiting the pre-school for over 20 years in hopes of making the children’s holiday season just a little merrier. Even though the holidays are busy, the officers make sure to find time for their annual tradition.

Not only do these officers volunteer their time on the day of Santa’s arrival, but they raise money beforehand to buy each child a gift from their individual wish list. Officer John Carney who has been running this program for the last five years commented on how it could not have been possible without the help of his fellow officers and the community.

Each child received a personalized gift as recommended by the pre-school teaching staff. The children were delighted with their toys and thanked the Officers with handmade cards from each of the five classrooms.
